Navigating our health-care system can be a tedious task, especially for folks who have difficulty with the internet or those without online access. That’s where the Aurora Public Library District (APLD) comes in! Although we do offer computers and knowledgeable staff, we are not experts in health care. For that, we call on the advisors from Islas Financial. Monday, Aug.15 at 6 p.m. the Santori Library will be host to a Medicare 101 workshop for anyone who is looking for information on quality care options in their golden years. A Spanish language workshop will begin at 7 p.m. for our Spanish-speaking customers.
With a sensitive subject such as health care, it is helpful to have a face-to-face dialogue with professional advisors so beneficiaries can feel comfortable and empowered on their decisions. Library staff member Mariana Guerrero is responsible for scheduling this program in English and Spanish.
She said, “I believe programs like these are crucial in our community . Our customers have the right to be informed about their options when it comes to health care. I know the APLD is the perfect place to hold these types of educational presentations and customers agree.”
In addition to health-care information access, the Library offers programs promoting healthy living. Program topics include depression, meditation, breast health, and an upcoming presentation on Alzheimer’s Disease. Presented by the Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, will be the program: The 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s Disease, the evening of Thursday, Aug. 25, will teach attendees what symptoms to look for in themselves and others.
Participants will learn how to best approach the subject with someone they believe is experiencing memory, thinking, or behavior changes. The earlier Alzheimer’s and other dementia disorders are detected and diagnosed. The sooner treatments can be started to improve quality of life and prevent disease progression, for individuals who suffer early signs.
This program will be broadcast live on our Facebook page and happening in-person at the Santori Library. Similar to the Medicare program, this presentation will be available for Spanish speaking customers Thursday, Sept. 8.
