West Aurora Cemetery, opened in 1824, will present its’ annual Memorial Day ceremony, at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 28 at 543 Wilder Street. Please bring a folding chair, open to the public. This cemetery, the oldest in Aurora was donated to the City by Clark and Hanna Wilder. Many of Aurora’s founders are interred there, including Theodore Lake, Clark Wilder, Rufus Root, Abel Downer, William Plum, and William Tanner, all of whom have streets named after them. West Aurora Cemetery, open to all, is home to the following veterans: Eight from War of 1812, 15 Spanish American War, 167 Civil War, and 51 World War 1,World War 2, and Vietnam. An historic program will be presented by The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Philip Sheridan Post #2, in Civil War uniforms.
