The Aurora Public Library (APL) Board appointed Michaela Haberkern its executive director at its monthly meeting
Tuesday, Jan. 22. She has been deputy director since January 2016.
Haberkern has 28 years of experience, including three years at APL. In her role as deputy director, she has hired and trained public service managers; strategically implemented policies, goals, and objectives of the Library; and helped improve the customer experience.
Prior to arrive at the APL, she held leadership positions at the Hinsdale Public Library, Skokie Public Library, and St. Louis County Public Library.
Haberkern said, “I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve as the director of Aurora Public Library. The staff, board, and community are incredibly passionate about their library, and I look forward to working with them on making Aurora’s library services the very best.”
She will begin her position as executive director in early March, at which time she will become only the ninth executive director at APL since 1881.
“We’ve had the chance to watch Michaela in action for several years and we are impressed with everything she’s accomplished here,” said Board president John Savage. “She’s the right leader to move this library forward so we can continue to offer amazing library services to
Aurora.”
