The International Economic Development Council, announced the fifth annual Economic Development Week celebration started Monday, May 4 and will run through Saturday, May 9! “The pioneers of economic development set the standard for the methods by which professionals would increase the quality of life for members of the community.

The International Economic Development Council is the largest professional economic development organization dedicated to serving and educating economic developers. With more than 6,000 members, the IEDC is the largest organization of its kind. Economic developers promote well being for their communities by creating, retaining and expanding jobs that facilitate growth, enhance wealth and provide a stable tax base. It is an exciting time for the profession. While it may look different from country to country, or region to region, economic development is at the core of well being and quality of life for communities across the world. It is a group of policies, programs and activities that seek to create and retain jobs and ultimately facilitate economic growth.”

In Montgomery, the Village Board and Business Community created the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation in 2003. The organization was founded by the village staff, elected officials and business owners along with the taxing bodies of the community. The intent was to create a combined effort and synergism between the community and the village leaders. The MEDC is proud to be partners with the Village on transportation issues, a variety of ordinances along with many new development and retention projects.
