Naperville Park District is pleased to announce that a partnership with Naperville Running Company will continue this Winter for the ninth consecutive year to support snow removal on a two-mile trail in south Naperville. The trail extends from the Route 59 pedestrian bridge through Frontier Sports Complex, Ashbury Park and Ashbury Greenway to Plainfield-Naperville Road. Under the agreement, the Park District will clear the trail after a snowfall (generally when the accumulation of snow is 2 inches or more) and Naperville Running Company will reimburse the Park District for labor and materials.
“The agreement with Naperville Running Company is a great example of a successful public-private partnership that benefits the community and saves taxpayer dollars,” said Executive Director Brad Wilson.
“We’re happy to work with the Naperville Park District for the ninth year to clear snow on a highly trafficked path that runs right past our South Naperville location,” said Kris Hartner, owner of Naperville Running Company. “For outdoor walking and running in the winter, there are few things more essential than a cleared path and we love that we can help make that happen right outside our back door!”
Other trails that are maintained year-round by Naperville Park District with snow removal as needed include the Riverwalk, the DuPage River Trail between Burr Oak Park and DuPage River Park, and the trails at Commissioners Park, Country Lakes Park, Meadow Glens, Nike Sports Complex, Wil-O-Way Commons, Wildflower Park and Wolf’s Crossing Community Park. Unpaved trails at parks such as Knoch Knolls Park can be used for cross country skiing or snowshoeing whenever conditions allow.
