After losing to Rolling Meadows High School Monday the Naperville North Huskies’ record stood at 3-7. The Huskies got hot and won four straight games to capture the consolation championship at the Tosh Holiday Classic in Elmhurst.
“We loved our team before the tourney and we love them even more now,” said Huskies’ head coach Gene Nolan.
Luke Williams, a 6-2 sophomore, scored 54 points in the final three games in victories over Minooka, Palatine, and Montini (the latter 61-51 in the conslation championship game). Williams was voted to the all-tournament team. Luke’s brother, Zeke, a senior was a key part of the Huskies’ surge.
“Luke and Zeke are brothers and they complement each other really well,” said Nolan. Luke agrees. “I think we are both good passers. We can find the open man.”
Luke Williams is excited for the rest of the season. “I think this week (at the York tournament) will be a good building block for us as we play in the DuPage Valley Conference,” Williams said.
The Huskies have a positive mindset throughout the year. “We never gave up hope even though we were losing early,” Luke Williams said.
Glenbard West won the York tournament championship by defeating Lyons, 60-28, in the championship game. Rolling Meadows tok third place with a 58-55 victory against Bolingbrook.
