At the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) meeting next month, representatives of Illinois school districts will vote on a resolution proposed by Red Hill Community Unit School District 10 in one of the new resolutions on arming school administrators and teachers.
The resolution is backed by more than 10 rural Illinois schools where concerns include lack of financial resources to employ full-time security personnel on school property. Some schools have grants which provide financial aid for the presence of a school resource officer on school property during certain hours.
The resolution states many schools in Illinois are in areas where it may take more than 30 minutes before an effective law enforcement team can arrive on scene in the case of a life-threatening event.
