Denny Hamlin received pole position and chose to start on the outside on this all-concrete race track dubbed the Monster Mile. Kyle “Mister Second Place” Larson, finished in first place! Following were Martin Truex, Jr. in second place, Alex Bowman in third, Kevin Harvick in fourth, Denny Hamlin in fifth, and Kyle Busch in sixth.
After a few laps, last-week’s winner, Chase Elliott, had engine failure and had to retire to the garage.
The first stage was won by Hamlin.
The second stage was led by Hamlin, Truex, Jr., Larson, and Alex Bowman. They all changed positions through stage two, with Truex, Jr. taking the victory. There was a problem during Truex, Jr.’s pit stop, which put him in third place for the start of stage three.
Larson led early over Hamlin at start of stage three with Truex, Jr. close behind. Kyle Larson stayed ahead of Truex, Jr. for the checkered flag and the victory.
Nascar, Monster Energy series, Bank of America Roval 400, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord, N.C., Sunday, Sept. 29.
Last year had a very exciting finish when Ryan Blaney, on the last lap on this road course, won when Jimmie Johnson was spun out by leader Truex, Jr..
This year’s winner of the road course was Chase Elliott. Following were Alex Bowman in second place, Kevin Harvick in third place, Clint Bowyer in fourth place, and Brad Keselowski in fifth place.
William Byron started on pole position. In the second lap at the new chicane a low-speed accident occurred when Truex, Jr., Alex Bowman, Austin Dillion, Bubba Wallace, all collected and collided. At the restart another traffic jam accident occurred involving Kurt Busch, Bowman, Hamlin, and Johnson, with Eric Jones in the heart of it all.
Larson won the first stage under caution. At the start of stage two Eric Jones had to retire to the pits from damage incurred in stage one.
Larson led in beginning of the second stage followed by Logano and Kevin Harvick. There was much contact during the stage with many cars damaged.
Logano took the victory over Harvick in the second stage.
During the final stage in last few laps, Harvick was in the lead with Truex, Jr. and Elliott close behind.
With only five laps to go Elliott took the lead and Bowman took second over Harvick.
