Commonly called “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday in August. It is a nationwide event designed to heighten drug prevention and crime awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships, this year August 7.
In addition to gatherings in nearly 50 neighborhoods throughout the community, Naperville’s National Night Out festivities will include a free community celebration at Centennial Beach, 500 W. Jackson Avenue, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6.
Back by popular demand, the National Night Out kick-off celebration at Centennial Beach will feature swimming, games, giveaways, and entertainment. There will be a limited amount of free food and beverages available, as well. This event is co-sponsored by the Naperville Park District and will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.. A donated pet item to benefit A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter and the Naperville Area Humane Society will allow a visitor in for free! Standard pool entrance rates apply without a donation.
Nearly 50 neighborhoods have registered to be hosts to National Night Out events between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. August 7 in Naperville with plans to enjoy bounce houses, ice cream socials, live music, cookouts, and kids’ parades. City employees from the police, fire, public works, and utility Departments will attend many of the neighborhood events.
The city government of Naperville will be partners with Naperville Area Humane Society and A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter for this year’s National Night Out donation drive. Neighborhoods are encouraged to conduct donation drives for these worthy causes in conjunction with their National Night Out events.
