Northwestern Illinois University (NIU) online STEM Café will explore the labor shortage from legal, gender, economic and management perspectives

Why is there a labor shortage right now, and how does the nature of work change in turbulent times? The public is invited to learn more at a free online STEM Café from Northern Illinois University at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13. Register at go.niu.edu/stemcafe.

A panel of NIU experts will weigh in about the legal, economic, gender and talent development issues that impact workers now and in the future.

• Carl Campbell III, chair of the NIU Department of Economics, will discuss economic factors.

• Michael Oswalt, associate professor in the NIU College of Law, will discuss labor, employment and workplace organizing.

• Mahesh Subramony, management professor in the NIU College of Business, will discuss the changing nature of work.

• Kathryn Cady, associate professor of communication and faculty associate in the NIU Center for the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality, will speak about feminist and labor politics and the experiences of women in the workforce.
