Big news for makers, tinkerers, and crafters! The Aurora Public Library District’s Makerspace at the Santori Library just got even more accessible and exciting! We are thrilled to announce that you no longer need an appointment to use Makerspace equipment. Now you can walk in anytime during posted hours and start creating.

Our Makerspace is a hands-on workspace on the first floor of the Santori Library. It’s a community hub designed to help people of all ages explore technology, design, and craftsmanship in a supportive environment. “Art is a way to connect with others, and the Makerspace is APLD’s greatest artistic resource,” said makerspace manager, Elliot. “We are also a very functional resource, a place where someone can 3D print a prototype of their patented product, or a component for a car, or lawnmower, or shower. There are very few places which sit at the intersection of art and functionality, and the Makerspace is in an unique position to provide a wide variety of resources to the entire Aurora community.”

The recent change in structure is because community interest in the Makerspace has grown steadily over the past few years. “Many of our customers have had unexpected Makerspace needs that they couldn’t plan in advance for,” added Elliot. “We want to make the space more accessible for everyone while, at the same time, empowering customers to learn new skills and take their projects into their own hands.”

During posted Makerspace hours, customers age 12 and up can experiment with various tools and machines like the 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, Cricut machines, a heat press, and more. Staff are always nearby to help newcomers learn the basics, teach safe machine operation, and troubleshoot projects. What’s great about the Makerspace is that it provides both the physical tools and the guidance to bring your ideas to life.

Whether you’re a seasoned creator or a first-time crafter, the Santori Library Makerspace is your place to explore, invent, and celebrate creativity—no appointment (or library card) required! The Makerspace is open Monday through Thursday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.aurorapubliclibrary.org/makerspace or contact the library at 630-264-4117.
