Officially we are less than one month away from Spring’s first day, March 20.

We have been blessed with the joy of a warmer than usual Winter for the first two of three months.

With warmer weather arrives the joy of an accumulation of activities. With COVID-19 losing its grip, in spite of daring to be a presence in the distance, we may be cooped up inside. Activities provide a sense of community participation.

The volatile League of Women Voters of Central Kane County offers reminders of the importance of political activities. The next event will be Thursday, March 2 for a hybrid forum which will feature political candidates running in the April 4 Consolidated Election for a four-year team as Campton Hills Village president, or, for four-year terms on the Campton Hills Board of Trustees.

The forum will be held in person March 2 at 7 p.m. at the Campton Hills (west, northwest of St. Charles in Central Kane County) Village Hall, 40W270 LaFox Road in Campton Hills. The event will be live-streamed and available for later viewing on the websites of the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County (https://my.lwv.org/illinois/central-kane-county) and the IL Voter Guide (https://Illinoisvoterguide.org/).

The forum will be divided into two segments, Village trustee candidates first, then the candidates for Village president. The League of Women Voters offers a basically nonpartisan forum, takes the task seriously, and offers a valuable political assistance to communities in Central Kane County. Other League of Women Voters areas have begun to formulate groups, including in Aurora, a welcome site it is to see. We need more of such activities and less of other activities, including partisan posturing. The latter is inevitable, however, does not have to be embraced as honest, fair, and nonpartisan.

Reminders from the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County are important dates, in Kane County to include: Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023 Consolidated Primary Election Day; Tuesday, March 7, last day to register to vote in the April 4 election; Wednesday, March 8-Monday, April 3, grace period registration and voting at Kane County Elections Main Office and the Aurora Satellite Elections Office; Monday, March 20-Monday, April 3, Early Voting Period at all Early Voting Polling Places; Tuesday, April 4, Election Day.

Yes, voting is important and a civic duty. We are more secure when we have a greater understanding both of the issues and of the candidates.

Voting truly is important and a civic duty, not just an effort to vote for the victorious candidates and the winning issues. Voting is an important part of democracy and democracy is a valid substitute for anarchy and totalitarianism.

• Activities and important activities include Saturday, March 25, a busy day in Aurora. First, the Woman’s Club of Aurora and its SS Aurora Spirit fundraiser at 11 a.m. at Belle Salle Banquets, 1915 E. New York Street, then the Rotary’s 20th Annual Wine & Chocolate Extravaganza, 5:30 p.m. at the Stonebridge Country Club, 2705 Stonebridge Boulevard, Aurora.
