The Oswegoland Heritage Association, the Oswegoland Park District, and the Little White School Museum are partners to offer two entertaining local history programs in early August.

From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, those 21 and older are invited to the latest “History Happy Hour at Christina’s.”

No matter the decade, there was always something fun to do in Oswego—even if it wasn’t always “legal.” Come to Christina’s Grill and Gatherings at Fox Bend Golf Course in Oswego August 8 to hear about some of the entertaining underground activity that took place in Oswego over the decades. From illegal boxing matches to prohibition shenanigans involving local bootleggers, there never seemed to be a dull week in the small town. Pre-registration is required due to space limitations, $12 for park district residents and $15 for non-residents.

Then at noon, Saturday, Aug. 17, the bus for the “Oswego History Tour – Church Cemeteries,” leaves from the Little White School Museum, 72 Polk Street, Oswego, to visit some of church cemeteries. Pre-registration, $7 for Park District residents, $10 non-residents.

The cemeteries around and near Oswego is because some of those cemeteries started as church burying grounds, and that some still are? Wonder who is buried there?

Join members of the heritage association and the park district on this bus tour of some of the community’s current and former local church-related cemeteries and learn about the treasure trove of local history they contain. The tour, which begins and ends at the museum, will last about an hour and a half. Pre-registration is required as there is limited space.

To register or for more information about these programs, call the park district at 630-554-1010 or visit the museum program registration site, https://www.oswegolandparkdistrict.org
