Our History Reviewed

In searching how our ancestors had lived and died,
We always looked for evidence they could not hide.
To know how they existed, and on what they fed,
Would always come to this—how did they treat their dead?
No matter their primeval state, to each his own,
Respect and honor, even love, was aptly shown.
It’s time we modern humans learned a thing or two—
We should, by now, know what to love, and what to rue.
Take love, for instance—it is bigger than you are;
Which indicates more than the human race, by far.
We call them gods, supreme beings, or simply God;
Regardless what it is, it’s something we can laud.
But there is one thing here we tend to thrust aside—
Our God has spoken to us, how we should abide.
We contradict ourselves, as evidence will give;
We tend to treat our dead better than those who live.
But be it ethnic, color, creed, presumptive race,
There are distinctive social problems we must face.
When bigotry and bias are allowed to thrive,
This human race may not have long to stay alive.
