More than 14,000 votes were cast for the 2020 Best of the Fox’ Awards for Aurora, and two City-run landmarks earned the top prizes.
For the second consecutive year, Philips Park Golf Course edged Orchard Valley and the Aurora Country Club to win the Best Golf Course category. In the Best Museum, or Cultural Institution category, the City’s G.A.R. Memorial Hall won the top spot, an upward move from its honorable mention nod in a separate category last year.
“Phillips Park Golf Course is honored to be awarded Best Golf Course in Aurora in the 2020 Aurora Best of the Fox competition for the second consecutive year,” said Jeff Schmidt, P.G.A. golf operations manager. “Our golf staff prides ourselves in exceptional customer service and in providing excellent course conditions to create memorable golf experiences for all our customers!”
The 18-hole championship golf course measures just under 6,200 yards and offers four sets of tees that will challenge not only the skilled golfer, but will provide a playable experience for the golfer who is just learning the game.
The G.A.R. Museum, built in 1878, is dedicated to honoring the men and women who have served in the U.S. Military and is currently completing a 20-year restoration project.
“The G.A.R. Memorial Museum is honored to be recognized as the Best Museum in Aurora,” said G.A.R. curator Eric Pry. “We are planning for the Museum to reopen Memorial Day 2021 with new exhibits, programs, and new opportunities for the whole family to learn about Aurora’s patriotic history.”
