Poem: Armed Forces Day

“I pledge Allegiance” I most openly declare;
That phrase is THE commitment all of us should share.
I understand this also—freedom is not free!
Demanding vigilance as well from you and me.
So here we praise the military, long and loud,
To all of them, we emphasize, “You make us proud!”
On their part, on this day, they also can take pride
In that they are the best equipped, and that world-wide.
Continuing to hear the bells of freedom ring,
It is our military doing the right thing.
Our freedoms really constitute a two-way street;
The traffic goes both ways, to make this act complete.
For while we praise the military, with a plus,
To make it work means their appreciating us!
So their oath to defend this land is only half;
“I pledge allegiance” keeps Old Glory at full staff!
