Poem: Greetings!

I know that in your mind you understand the words you read,
And that is most important in this realm of human need;
But how you then interpret them, in what they mean to you,
May change the author’s intent altogether…oh!, so true!
So take a bit more time in reading Christmas cards you get;
The fact you even got them may be as important yet.
The same with greetings on the street—they mean something today;
They did not have to say a thing, now did they, by the way.
This time of year brings out a lot in how we think and act.
So innate courtesies, when said with meaning, have impact.
Hence, when I say this: Merry Christmas!, all’s not said and done,
For it’s another way to say “God bless us, everyone!”
