Poem: If You Ever Wondered

If you believe in God, alert to greed and sin,
How often have you wondered this: Where has He been?”
The truth is this—He’s been around more than you think,
If He were there in front of you, He’d simply wink.
That wink would tell you—look around, if you need proof,
For there’s enough, decidedly, to raise the roof!
For instance, let’s take Christmas! Check it out through time.
It has survived, despite the hills it had to climb.
In spite of pestilence and war, the sordid traits,
The anti-social obstacles of awesome weights,
Christmas not only has survived, but gained in strength.
Not only that, but far beyond a normal length.
This wasn’t done by manifesting a decree,
Or by or through the makings of a public plea.
Christmas is the epitome of human pride;
The substance of a human decency inside.
It has been, through the people, nurtured from its birth,
That galvanized its celebration, and its worth.
And this is where God’s innate spiritual force began;
God played upon the mind-sets of the common man.
He played upon familial values and its force;
Allowing Christmas to pursue a splendorous course.
What Christmas has become since that initial spark
Provokes the human spirit lightening the dark!
