Program in Sugar Grove to assist canning

All those tomatoes from your garden, or farmers’ market, can not be eaten fast enough. Kathy Jankovic, former instructor of culinary arts at Geneva High School, will present a programat 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Sugar Grove Public Library, 125 Municipal Drive, in Sugar Grove. Topic for the program: “I Can! So Can You Can.” Participants will learn the art of canning, which will enable individuals to extend beyond the growing season the life of the healthy foods they grow or buy. During the program, Jankovic will demonstrate the steps of canning and will answer questions from the audience.

Hand-outs will be provided. In addition, Jankovic will explain how canned produce can be used to create many healthy dishes, such as delicious homemade Italian and Mexican sauces.

This program will be presented presented by The Just Food Initiative of the Fox Valley, a nonprofit organization based in Batavia that is committed to building sustainable and just food systems, as well as restoring quality and equality to the food supply.
