Dear editor;
I see how the Aurora City Council is moving and I feel it is not inclusive. Bringing in a whole new population downtown of executive types and emphasizing visitors and tourism to make us have some sort of prosperity and fame, has little to do with the greater population of Aurora. We want progress as a city where we can grow and prosper, but this growth must include all cultures, age groups, and economic levels. I do not see it right now.
The idea of a convention center, moving the Casino, adding more liquor sales, video gambling, and plugging in Smart City to bring high-class executives, has little to do with the every-day lives of those who make Aurora what it is. Trying to bend and reshape us will not work. Previous initiatives such as changing the train station, putting RiverEdge Park so close to residents and moving the Farmers Market, are just small indications of not understanding the citizens. We do not want to dismiss neither the trend, nor anyone coming here. We want progress, but progress as who we are: A city of relationships, a special heritage, and a need to get along even better than previously.
Granting yourself endless pensions, pocketing money from business moves here in Aurora, and having an inner group that considers the voices of concern as uninformed and critical, are furthering the distance between you and us.
Citizens together can make an informed statement that we want progress, but progress as who we are. We can show this by helping candidates who are of the people and that know what the people want get elected by sharing with each other and voting. Voting in an informed way, not by popularity, will give progress to our City and Nation to be for all of us.
