Railroads helped build the United States. There are various centers in northern Illinois for dedication to railroads, including Aurora. The history of Aurora and Burlington Railroad, 175 years, 1849-2024, an exhibit, will run through Saturday, Aug. 17 at the David L. Pierce Art & History Center, 20 East Downer Place in downtown Aurora.
Artifacts, according to the Aurora Historical Society, include photos, a handcar, various sets of keys, signage, a bell from Chicago, Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q) Railroad Steam Engine #4956, and two pieces from locomotives involved in the 1964 train wreck in Montgomery, and many more items.
•A Train Fun Run, sponsored by Open Roads ABATE Chapter will be held Saturday, April 13 at the Aurora Transportation Center, 233 N. Broadway in Aurora, at 10 a.m. with departure on time at 10:20 a.m. and proceeds will go to safety and education programs. The train ticket is $. per person and $5 per person for the fun run. The event is open to adults.
The historic trains and train rides continue to draw interest in our society today.
