After reading the column by Charles Coddington (Chas) in the August 1 edition of The Voice, I feel compelled to respond to his many points. Please bare with me because I’m not a writer and kind of out of my element.
First, I’m not a fan of name-calling but I call attention to it. Donald Trump’s name-calling consists of crooked Hillary Clinton, sleepy Joe Biden, and laughing Kamala Harris. On the other hand, Democrats call Trump a threat to democracy, dictator, a narcissist, pathological liar, T. Rump, Agent Orange, sociopath, and much more. No comparison here! Please allow me to call Chas just this one time, Santa Clause. I believe he shares the same make-believe world. Sorry about that, let’s move on.
The Democrats have tried everything to stop Trump, and so far nothing is working for them and it leaves them bewildered and afraid. The sexual assault charge, that could have happened, had no DNA which it did with Bill Clinton in the oval office. Let me see, an intern vs. president of the United States, no position of power here? Thank God for the dress she was wearing. No criminal/civil consequence there! The 34-count indictment, conviction of Trump and now he is labeled a felon. That will probably go away after appeal no doubt, due to all of the legal errors, but that doesn’t matter. He just had to be called a convicted felon prior to the election. Heck, even a legal analyst for CNN stated on national TV that he didn’t know what the crime was. When Trump attorneys wanted to call an undisputed expert witness to testify, the judge would not allow it. Why wouldn’t they want that testimony presented to the jury? You fill in the blank!
Let’s refer to the lies. Are you referring to his boasting of crowd size, his accomplishments, his legal problems, his me, me, me attitude, etc.? Maybe it was about the January 6 insurrection in which the world heard him say on National TV, go to the Capitol and fight like hell, peacefully. Not a quote. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t agree with the folks who fought with police, but there were many charged who were just walking around. Let’s not forget, the only one killed on that day was the unarmed woman who was fatally shot climbing through a window. The government left no rock unturned to find and charge everyone on the property that day by accessing phone records, credit cards, bus tickets, plane tickets and probably hotel stays. Nancy Pelosi was authorized keep Capitol security and did not follow Trump’s request for troops. Personally, I think she was hoping that something bad would happen. Again, I am not defending Trump who could have said something to the crowd and turned things around sooner. I should note that there were people there that day to create trouble. Those were the people in protective gear and prepared for a riot. Those wearing baseball caps, carrying American flags and just walking around inside the Capitol were ill-prepared for a riot.
Correct me if I’m wrong with specifics, but I don’t believe anyone was actually charged with Insurrection, but the media keeps referring to that for a sound bite.
Let’s focus on fights and lies with political opponents. A lot of Trump officials were charged with , and some convicted of, crimes. Trump probably could have gone after Hillary with all of the deleted Email and server that she should not have had in her possession, but he didn’t.
Remember Maxine Waters, burn baby burn, while standing with rioters on National TV. The government didn’t turn any rocks over to find rioters for billions of dollars in damage and the takeover of Federal buildings. No consequences for her, or, the rioters! Remember Schuman standing at the podium in front of the Supreme Court building on National TV stating, Cavenough, you’re going to pay for this and a gunman showed up at the Cavenough home. No consequences! Remember Russian collusion and the dossier, now proven factually wrong. No consequences! Remember the Biden laptop that was listed as fake by the FBI and now used in a court of law as evidence. No consequences!
The cover up of Biden’s cognitive ability, not his age. Half of the world saw it more than three years ago and the other half just saw it within the last month. Probably no consequences! The Biden administration has told us for 3½ years that our borders are secure, but now we know that more than 11 million have crossed. Only time will tell us what that consequence will be! I could go on and on, but saving space for my comments: As a citizen, a little more fairness from the press and the legal system would go a long way to bringing us back together.
Trump stated, “only on day 1”, that he would be a dictator by closing the border and, “drill baby drill”. The Democrats took that and ran with it as now he will be a dictator. He stated that his retribution would be winning the election. The Democrats took that as he is going to go after his opponents. Remember Hillary?
The fake assassination? Chas, I’d bet you might be the only one who would hire a 20-year-old kid who can’t hit the broadside of a barn from inside the barn and ask that he only shoot Trump in the ear lobe! There are many disturbing issues surrounding that incident and again probably no consequences! I refer you back to my second paragraph, first sentence :The Democrat have tried everything to stop Trump. Think what you may.
Just to be clear, I agree that Biden was an embarrassment and has been for some time. If the Democrats hadn’t taken his campaign money away and support back, he’d still be in the race. They could no longer hide his cognitive condition. His revenge was, then I’ll endorse Harris and you’re stuck with her. No need for an open convention. They had no way out of the box that they put themselves into. Harris was a low-level candidate in the debates and then had a lower approval rating then Biden. Now, there’s a consequence!
When I’m told by opponents they hate Trump, they always revert to name-calling and nothing of substance. I’ve told many of my Democratic friends, we will never know what kind of president Trump could have been if you hadn’t come after him before he was even sworn in. I can’t imagine being attacked for 7+ years and not being a little hostile toward others Again, my Republican friends and I do not care for how he speaks at times, but I can’t find fault with most of his policies.
I’ve lived four years under Trump and less than four years under Biden and Harris. If you removed the personality from both sides of the equation, honestly, who then would you pick? I’ve worked under mayors I did not like, but the bigger picture was they kept the city in the black and protected my livelihood. I can live with the consequences of my vote! Can you? Need I say more? I should not have to!
