Dear editor;

Concerning Donald Trump and the rule of law.

Thoughts of an honest, compassionate, non-corrupt Executive Branch of the United States government proved delusional when we as the American electorate voted Trump, once again, as our president and supposed leader of the free world. For some Trump voters, undocumented immigrants, the price of gas and groceries, the race or gender of the candidate, all or neither of these issues may have turned their votes; millions cared too little to even cast their ballots; of least importance to all these citizens however was the future of the rule of law in this country as we have known it.

Before Trump’s political rise there was a time when the appearance of moral rectitude was a prerequisite for being elected, appointed, or even considered for high office: Besides sexual assault, Trump is guilty of 34 felonies against the citizens of the state of New York, was impeached twice, attempted to overthrow an election he lost, and though he was never charged, he diverted millions of tax dollars to his private businesses—and he was still elected. He has threatened to suspend the U.S. Constitution, called our free-press “the enemy of the people”; he vows revenge against his perceived political adversaries, and just pardoned 1,500 fellow Jan. 6 insurrectionists, some of whom were pronounced guilty of violent crimes against Capitol Police officers in jury trials.

As a constitutional check to the other branches of government, the Supreme Court judges, one-third of whom were appointed by Trump, has repeatedly failed the American people, ethically, morally, and perhaps illegally. Incredibly, the president now has immunity for any crimes committed pertaining to “official” duties of office which places him above the law.

Greedy and corrupt politicians and judges have always been with us, though never has it seemed as acceptable as it appears today. With Trump as America’s chief law enforcement officer, one need not possess an intellect much greater than that of an avocado to understand that our rule of law is in jeopardy; but as a constitutional check to the possible abuse of power of the Executive Branch, the servile Republican members of Congress are as useless as the magic-bullets in a box of Preparation H—until of course, Trump’s backside itches.

Please go in peace.
