Dear editor;
A young man speaks up about guns. That young man is my grandson:
“Dear parents, I’m a 14-year-old 8th grade student in Jr. High in Oswego. I want to tell you how I feel about guns in school. I want to tell you how I feel every day when I go to school and pray that everything will be ok, that it will be a good day for learning and being with my friends.
“When I heard about the Georgia shooting by a 14-year-old, I just wanted to cry. The reason I felt this way was because I knew there were kids and teachers who would not go home and see their families that night. Their friends and families would never have the chance to see them again or be able to tell them how good a friend they were or how much they love them.
“School is supposed to be a safe place to learn and have fun. Instead, school has become a place where kids have to be afraid they might not come back home that night.
“I think anyone who can buy a gun should have a lot of training before they can own a gun. Adults need to lock up their guns and keep them away from young people and definitely not give their children an AR15 as a gift for Christmas or their birthday. Once you have a gun license, you should have insurance.”
It’s time to listen to kids like me and do something about guns.
