Dear editor;
Vice president Kamala Harris, or any candidate seeking elected office, should be charged with violating election laws if they promise directly, or indirectly, in their advertisements that they will forgive loans or enact programs by using our hard-earned tax dollars if elected.
Our justice system should treat such promises as an attempt to buy votes.
According to 18 U.S. Code 597, “Whoever solicits, accepts, or receives any such expenditure in consideration of his vote, or the withholding of his vote shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if the violation was willful, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.”
