Dear editor;

Thank you, voters of Kane County Board, District 4, for electing me as your Kane County Board member in 2020 and 2022. Now I am running again in the November 5 election.

I have deep roots in Aurora and raised my family here. My career includes AT&T Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies, where I rose to technical manager and learned how to create budgets and stick to them. As an acupuncturist and small business owner, I gained an understanding of what it takes to run your own business. Since 2020 I have had the honor and privilege to be on the Kane County Board. I am grateful every day to be able to serve my constituents in District 4 and the entire County.

My community involvement in Aurora started in 1990 and I haven’t stopped since. My passion is protecting families and the environment, and I am the founder and chair person of the Aurora Greenfest. I have served on the boards of Mutual Ground, Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry, and I am a past president of Aurora Kiwanis Club.

As the chair person of the Energy and Environmental Committee, I led the effort to put eight acres of solar panels behind the Judicial Center. This system will save the equivalent of 50 million pounds of coal being burned and $5,000,000 for our taxpayers over the life of the system. We passed the Kane County Climate Action Implementation Plan, which will make the world a safer place for our children.

Putting families first, I worked to provide millions of grant dollars for vital services, especially for mental health providers and food pantries. I am working to create a thriving economy and bring good, high-paying jobs to Kane County. I am spearheading creation of a new Kane County Strategic Plan, which will give us the direction we need to set priorities for the future.

My goals for the next four years include seeing the Strategic Plan through to completion and making sure the Climate Action Implementation Plan gets put to good use. I want to protect the hard-earned dollars of our taxpayers by reducing waste and balancing the budget.

I am having a campaign fundraising event on August 15 to help support my bid for another term. Please join us at Baum’s Biergarten, 211 N. River Street, in Montgomery, from 5:p.m. to 8 p.m. and we will have hearty appetizers and free draft beer and pop. Suggested donation is $50.per person. If you can’t join us, please consider making a donation. Make checks payable to Mavis Bates for Kane and send to 60 S. Harrison, Aurora IL, 60506, or go to my website, www.mavisbatesforkane.org to donate online.

I will continue to work hard and stand up for what I believe in, what we believe in: Taking care of our families and our precious children, creating a thriving economy and good jobs, and protecting the environment.

I humbly ask for your vote November 5.

Mavis Bates, Aurora
