Dear editor;
I see that Charles Coddington in The Voice July 14 asserted that the U.S. Supreme Court justices were incorrect in their decision with Roe V. Wade.
He asserts that some legal scholars, none of which he names, may be full of fluff. He uses “pretzel-like” language to arrive at their decision. Charles agrees that the word abortion does not appear in the U.S. Constitution. He should have explained how these justices interpreted wrong.
Let’s look at two Amendments. Amendment IX reads: The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage other rights retained by the people.
How do we know what these rights are? By looking at the 10th Amendment which reads: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively and the people.
It seems to me that the justices got it right. As far as voting rights being in danger, Amendments 14, 19, and 21 guarantee voting rights.
