Dear editor;

One of the greatest unpaid jobs in Aurora is being an usher at the brand spanking new Stolp Island Theatre, and I can tell you, it’s an absolute privilege. From the moment you walk in, the attention to detail in the theatre draws you into the production. As the show begins, you step into a lively jam session that makes you feel like you’re right there with the legends, and at times, like you are part of the action.

From the very beginning, you are invited to be a lively audience. As the show goes on, one of the actors does a marvelous job of encouraging everyone to show their appreciation for the individual performances and occasionally eliciting feedback. It’s that kind of show. The actors feed off the crowd’s energy, turning the performance into a collaborative, high-energy celebration.

The iconic music and extraordinary singers are simply irresistible. The musicianship is phenomenal, from the bass fiddle to the drums to the guitars. Every performance leaves me amazed at the talent and energy these performers bring to the stage.

But it’s not just the show that keeps me coming back, it’s the patrons too. I love talking with the audience before and after the performance, hearing stories about how the music connects to their lives. Many are celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, or other milestones.

Patrons often tell me they’ve seen the show multiple times since it opened in July, a true testament to how unique and addictive it is. I love encouraging people to come back, and they do, one family as many as eight times! I understand why, as I’ve ushered more than 36 times and paid to see it four more.

Aurora is lucky to have such a vibrant theatre scene, from the historic beauty and history of the Paramount Theatre to the intimate setting of the Copley Theatre. Stolp Island Theatre adds something entirely new with its immersive and unforgettable production. I’m lucky enough to enjoy the show and share in the joy of the patrons. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience, and one you’ll want to experience again and again.
