Impeachment proceedings take center stage in television, radio, and daily newspaper, coverage. It is inescapable, however, even though it may be theater to some of us, our world must take it seriously more than as intrigue. We rise and fall with the residue of politics because it is better than settling issues by war, takeover, and take-down. Much of the world through history has settled disputes with hostilities. Likely that is why the events at the U.S. Capitol January 6, when the U.S. Capitol was taken by storm, propelled by a mob with little understanding of its place in the world, raised major concerns of how to conduct differences among U.S. citizens.
We should understand issues and differences and be informed citizens. That’s why a focus on political forums are essential. For example:
• The Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce continues to plan a virtual event for its annual Meet the Candidates Forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9. The public is invited. Candidate registration is due Monday, Feb. 15 by E-mail, info@sugargrivechamber.org, or, call 630-466-7895.
• The League of Women Voters Aurora Area (LWVAA) plans to hold four forums this month and in March by Zoom. Aurora and Oswego elections will be the topics. See page 4.
• The Primary Elections will be held Tuesday, Feb. 23, and the Consolidated Election will be Tuesday, April 6. Our future is in the hands of voters.
• February is the birthday and celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s birth day, which was February 12, 1809. He is admired for his capability and leadership.
• The annual symposium to commemorate Lincoln’s 212th birthday will be held remotely this year. The life and legacy of Lincoln will be February 12-13. Clear and Concise, Week 6 Year 2:
Words matter! Perception possible. A telephone call to a prospective advertiser in The Voice Love special this week (see the back page), started with the person who answered the phone call. The Voice person who called, responded that the call was a focus on a Love Promotion. The initial person who answered the phone call, said in a clear voice, “……there is a call for you on a Love Connection.” The intended recipient of the call picked up the phone, gave a hearty chuckle and responded, “I am already married.” It may have been a light moment to interrupt the day beset by heavy COVID-19 cover, seven inches of snow on the ground, and temperatures set to plunge below zero degrees. Levity and Love allow us to pull through severe circumstances.
