State representative Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, announces $3 million in Rebuild Illinois funding for streetscape improvements for Broadway Avenue in Aurora, which will modernize downtown infrastructure, beautify the area and promote business growth.

“Broadway Avenue is the heart of our Aurora community, and it’s time for a makeover,” Hernandez said. “Our downtown is where people come to live, work and play, and it needs diligent care to preserve. This vital funding from Rebuild Illinois will give Aurora the chance to do that.”

The $3 million going to Broadway Avenue in Aurora is one of a larger set of statewide grants that distribute $106 million to revitalize 50 commercial corridors and main streets across Illinois for the Rebuild Illinois program. Hernandez has prioritized support for Rebuild Illinois so fiscally responsible investments such as this continue.

“High inflation is forcing up prices of essential goods, and that takes a toll on small businesses that normally thrive in downtown Aurora, as well as patrons who can’t afford to shop there,” Hernandez said. “Much-needed investment in the area will attract new commerce and speed the recovery of our business community as it continues to overcome these economic challenges.”
