Plano mayor Bob Hausler, Yorkville mayor Gary Golinski, Millbrook Village president Jackie Kowalski, and Oswego Village president Gail Johnson, will join more than 4,300 city and county leaders across the country Thursday, April 5 in a day of recognition to show the impact of RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) volunteers, a part of Senior Corps on challenges facing the citizens of Kendall County.
Together they will serve along with more than 83 RSVP volunteers serving at the Kendall County Community Food Pantry in Yorkville.
The Nation’s community leaders are increasingly turning to national service and volunteerism as a cost-effective strategy to address challenges at a time of fiscal constraint. More than 230 RSVP volunteers serve throughout Kendall County and provide vital support to residents by volunteering at food pantries, transporting seniors to necessary medical appointments, grocery shopping, preparing taxes for seniors and for those with disabilities, delivering meals to frail and homebound seniors, as well as many other volunteer positions assisting non-profits.
National Service Recognition Day activities in Kendall County are part of a National bipartisan effort to recognize the positive impact of national service, thank those who serve, and to encourage citizens to give back.
The effort is sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the National Association of Counties, the National League of Cities, and Cities of Service. For more information, visit NationalService.gov/Recognition Day.
Senior Services Associates, Inc. has sponsored the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) since 1987. RSVP allows members, ages 55 plus, to apply the skills and wisdom acquired throughout their lives to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Last year 790 RSVP volunteers across Kane, Kendall, and McHenry Counties reported 108,500 service hours in a variety of volunteer capacities. The Independent Sector values volunteer time in Illinois at $25.95. This figure means that RSVP volunteers contribute $2,815,575.00 annually as community volunteers.
The Corporation for National and Community Service is the federal agency for volunteering, service, and civic engagement. The agency engages millions of Americans in citizen service through its AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs and leads the Nation’s volunteering and service efforts. For more information, visit
