Giving to women and children living in the Mutual Ground domestic violence and sexual assault shelter in Aurora was the focus of last weekend’s Christmas in July event in the State’s second-largest city.
Aurorans turned out in record numbers to donate more than one ton of much-needed toiletries and $6,000 in cash for the second annual event held by Aurora Police Officer Will Whitfield.
Whitfield first became aware of Mutual Ground from responding to 911 calls for domestic violence that would result in women and children leaving their homes to reside in a safe space, often in the middle of the night, without any personal items. It inspired him to organize the donation drive thru.
