Illinois State representative Stephanie Kifowit (D-Oswego) is set to attend the annual Tradeswomen Build Nations (TWBN) Conference in Washington, D.C., December 1-3. The Conference will bring together thousands of women from across various industries to learn, share, and connect.
Tradeswomen Build Nations is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women in various industries. Representative Kifowit is a strong supporter of TWBN and its mission. She is attending the Conference to learn more about the challenges and opportunities facing women in the trades and how the State of Illinois can address these challenges and expand opportunities. She is going to connect with other industry professionals and elected officials who share her passion for making the trades industry a more inclusive and equitable place for all.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to attend the TWBN Conference and connect with women who are making a difference in all industries,” stated representative Kifowit. “I am also committed to supporting policies and programs that empower women to succeed in their fields. I look forward to learning more about how we can further break down barriers to entry and advancement for women in the trades.”
In partnership with the governor Pritzker, the Illinois General Assembly has made investing in equitable pathways for women and people of color a cornerstone of recent State infrastructure projects, from Rebuild Illinois to the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA).
In August, the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) and Chicago Women in Trades (CWIT) announced a $1.35 million federal grant to the Illinois Department of Labor. The funding will go toward supporting tradeswomen-led efforts to train and support the entry of more women into infrastructure and construction careers.
