Rivalry football games accelerate. There will be more than Friday’s Geneva at Batavia game. Friday games will include Waubonsie Valley at District 204 sibling Neuqua Valley; St. Charles East at St. Charles North; Naperville Central against Naperville North at North Central College; and Wheaton Warrenville at Wheaton North.
Friday will be the 100th Batavia-Geneva game. East Aurora will play at West Aurora in week eight, Friday, Oct. 12. Their rivalry started in 1893. The 126th game will be played this year. The standing: West Aurora 65 victories, East Aurora 48 victories, and 12 ties. The annual East Aurora Old-Timers Football Association will meet Thursday, Oct. 18, the evening prior to the end of the regular season, at Gaslite Manor in Aurora. Undefeated Batavia last week defeated visiting Wheaton Warrenville South, 41-20, and it was, according to Batavia head coach Dennis Piron, “Great defense and power football.” Piron said there will be no letdown against Geneva, 0-3, 0-5. “We circle it first and it is talked about the most.”
Waubonsie Valley head coach Paul Murphy on the 5-0 start: “(It was) hard work, playing fast, and everyone doing assignments to best of their abilities.”
Glenbard South, first-year Upstate Eight Conference member is 4-1 prior to playing at West Aurora, 4-1: “They will cause us a lot of issues, if we don’t clean things up offensively with penalties and turnovers,” West Aurora head coach Nate Eimer said.
Dan McGuire, head coach at Yorkville following a 28-27 overtime defeat to visiting Sycamore: “We had strong performances by our quarterback, Josh Beetham, and tailback, Toran Harris.”
Aurora Central head coach Luke Brauweiler on the team’s 12-6 ot victory over Riverside-Brookfield: “Max Ariano scored a 10-yard rushing TD on the first play of our ot and Jimmy Eul intercepted an (R-B) pass. I’m most pleased with our mental toughness. We have been in four close games and not given up.”
