For a family science night, youth and adults launched water-bottle rockets in the Wesley United Methodist Church parking lot. Approximately 30 persons participated.

Jim “Science Guy” Merk, a Church member and a retired West Aurora schools science teacher, led the activity. Assisting were Iris Pawlowski, a West Aurora High student, Michelle Curiel, Church children and families director; and Thew Elliott, liturgy and music director.

Propulsion was provided by pressure from air foot pumps and water.

After a free dinner, Merk led guests in crafting the rockets. He provided assistance and plans that showed families how to build and add paper nose cones and fins to water bottles.

The event continued a series of Wednesday-night family activities coordinated by Curiel.

Wesley holds Sunday services at 9:30 a.m. online and in-person at 10:30 a.m.. The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.
