In an eighth-annual fundraiser, Scouting America Blackhawk Troop 11 will post a U.S. flag on Aurora-area front lawns this summer.
An announcement said Troop 11, based at Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora, will post flags in Aurora, Montgomery and North Aurora on Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4 and Labor Day.
Troop 11’s goal is to post 350 flags. Under the effort, a uniformed Scout places a 2-by-3 foot American flag on a subscriber’s lawn on national holiday mornings and then will retrieve the flag in the evening.
Scouts will salute the flags on drop off and retrieval.
Subscription levels are scout supporter, $30; patriotic pride, $40; and soar with eagles, $50. The project funds troop equipment maintenance, summer camp attendance and recognition for scouts’ accomplishments.
Deadline to start or renew subscriptions is April 15.
Send checks made payable to Boy Scout Troop 11 to Wesley UMC, 14 N. May St., Aurora, IL 60506. To pay online, visit https://troop11-406289.square.site.
Troop 11 is chartered by Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84. Since its founding in 1916, Troop 11 has guided over 200 young men on their journey to earn the rank of Eagle. Troop 11 is a boy-lead troop, focusing on developing leadership by giving scouts responsibility for managing their activities.
The scouting program is designed for youth from 11 to 17 years old or are at least 10 years old and have completed the fifth grade or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award. Scouts experience a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster to achieve the SA’s objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness. Troop 11 meets on Monday evenings at 7 p.m. at Wesley.
