For Maria Andrejczyk, something mattered more than the silver medal she won for Poland in the javelin during the recent Tokyo Olympics. She auctioned off her medal to help pay for a surgery for an eight-month-old baby with a heart defect. But the winning bidders, a Polish store chain, Zabka, gave the medal back to Maria. “We wanted to help with the surgery, and we also wanted Maria to keep her medal. She’s a true champion.”
