Summer unofficially will begin with Memorial Day and joyfully (hopefully) work its way through Labor Day, the unofficial end of Summer.
With Memorial Day we enjoy activities and must pause to understand reasons in memoriam why we have a Memorial Day. As a society we should be dedicated to minimize reasons for additional memorial days.
• Tight space becomes the author of compact notes of importance throughout our communities:
• The Memorial Day parade in Aurora will step off at noon Monday, May 30 from the intersection of Benton and River Streets with the reviewing stand at the GAR Hall, 23 E. Downer Place. Grand marshals will be the Class of 2022 enlistees in the U.S. Armed Forces in all branches of the military. Veterans groups will be included and so will marching bands from East Aurora High School, West Aurora High School, Metea Valley High School, Granger Middle School, and Hill Middle School. The aim: Good weather, memorial.
• Roosevelt Aurora American Legion Post 84 will be a partner with the American Legion Band for a free concert following a two-year hiatus because of COVID-19. The concert will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 28 at West Aurora High School. Doors will open at 2:45 p.m.. It will be a tribute to Armed Forces Day.
• Scouts from Troop 75 and other volunteers planted approximately 500 native pollinator-friendly plants May 22 at Hobson West Ponds, a Naperville Park District.
• Representative Barbara Hernandez is holding an animal shelter donation drive at 540 W. Galena Boulevard in Aurora through May 31.
• Marmion Academy Alumni Association’s 50th annual Steak Fry/Lobster Boil will be June 3 on campus.
• The Montgomery Street Eats Festival will be June 4 in Montgomery Park, 301 N. River Street.
