Six members of the Boys Baseball of Aurora (BBA) were inducted into the 10th Hall of Fame Saturday at Turner’s Field in Aurora. That brought the total to 89 inductees. The first year for the HOF was in 2009.
The six inductees: Andy Weis, as a player in Minors, Majors, Pony, American Legion, all-State selection at Aurora Central Catholic High School, and all-star at St. Francis College in Joliet; Larry Sladek, successful manager in the Aurora Pony League for 22 years through 2017 with six championship game appearances and three championships; Lou Hernandez, played all four levels, led Platt Electric as a pitcher to back-to-back Pony League championships, all-conference pitcher at both East Aurora and Aurora University; the late Emilie Galles, as a friend, the only solo woman inducted into the HOF, with Lisa Brown of Banana Split joining her husband, Randy Brown, in the 2016 Class; Steve Schwartz, all four levels, Joe Bernard Most Valuable Player Award in the American Legion League, all-State selection at Aurora Central Catholic, 44th round draft selection by Houston Astros; Bob Hamilton, managed for 28 years through 2001.
• Sean Rash of Montgomery, a Professional Bowling Association (PBA) bowler helped to bring a tournament to his hometown for the Parkside Lanes Open. Ironically he finished in 35th place, behind the final qualifying 27th place for Monday’s final day. EJ Tackett of Huntington, Ind. won the tournament (see page 10) for a $10,000 payout with 5,919 pins. AJ Johnson of Oswego was ninth with 5,764; Kristopher Prather of Plainfield was 17th with 5,523, Steve Jaros of Yorkville was 18th with 5,421; and Nick Kruml of Downers Grove was 23rd with 5,381.
