The Seattle Seahawks weren’t the only winners in Super Bowl 60 Sunday, Feb. 8.

Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry won a $1,679 donation from St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Aurora. The church was among congregations nationwide who celebrated the national Souper Bowl of Caring, a movement tackling hunger in local communities.
Randy Steinheimer, church council president, said soup kettles labeled with Super Bowl teams were placed in the church lobby at worship services Saturday and Sunday. In an annual friendly competition, congregants were asked to vote for their favorite team by dropping a cash or check donation in their team’s kettle.
St. Mark’s 2026 total included $1,152 in the Seahawks’ kettle and $527 in the Patriots’ kettle. Last year the event raised $1,144 for the pantry.
Founded in 1990, Souper Bowl Sunday is the signature event of Houston-based Tackle Hunger, a nonprofit inspiring people to tackle hunger in their local communities.
Tackle Hunger supporters included the Seahawks and New England Patriots. Seattle won 29-13 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif..
Since its formation, Tackle Hunger events have collected over $170 million and food donations benefiting thousands of soup kitchens, food banks, meal programs, and other hunger-relief charities.
