St. John United Church of Christ, 309 Fifth Street, Aurora, Community Clothes Closet continues to honor all in Aurora as a volunteer site for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), which is a service component of Senior Corps. They are seeking to recruit the help of volunteers to organize clothing donations, to assist clients at the clothes closet, to help families with child care needs, while shopping, to serve refreshments to clients, and to help with several other good-hearted projects throughout the year from 9 a.m. to noon the first Saturday each month.

Batavia Post 504 to hold two runs
Batavia American Legion Post 504 5K Run and military style cadence Fun Run will take place starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 15 at Lauralwood Lodge, 800 N. River Street, Batavia. The event will celebrate the Post’s 100th anniversary. The run will take place along the Fox River Trail between Batavia and Geneva. The cadence fun run is a throwback to training in the armed forces which will be a good warm-up.

Orwell’s Big Brother in Aurora June 8
The event, “Big Brother is Listening: A Tribute to George Orwell’s ‘1984’” will take place 2 p.m., Saturday, June 8, in room 126 of the Santori Public Library of Aurora, 101 S. River Street, Aurora. Refreshments will be served.

Orwell’s novel, first published June 8, 1949, depicts a dystopian future in which a totalitarian government controls its population through censorship, propaganda, and surveillance.
