Founded in 2006, Starfish is a licensed, all-volunteer, nonprofit rescue. It mobilizes volunteers to biweekly transport dogs, cats, puppies and kittens from southeast Kentucky for adoption or foster homes in Chicago-area homes. Since its inception, Starfish has saved almost 6,000 animals.

The organization’s mission is to rescue animals from high kill shelters, provide transportation of these animals to secure, non-kill establishments, to promote and facilitate responsible pet ownership, and to intervene in cases of animal cruelty.
