The Aurora Turner gymnastics group will be host to a State-wide championship in its double gymnasium Friday afternoon, May 18 through Sunday May 20. There were 931 pre-registered competitors representing 36 gymnastic organizations from northern Illinois. It will bring an estimated 2,000 spectators during that weekend.
It is not Olympic grade competition, but the best in all age levels of beginning and intermediate gymnasts. Everything must have a beginning somewhere!
Aurora Turners have provided physical education to the youth and young adults of the Aurora area for more than 100 years and our sports complex is among the best in the Chicago area. In addition to gymnastics the Turners are well known for their softball league and tournaments throughout the season. The Turners will be host to the American Turners National slow-pitch championships, June 22-24.
Our youth programs include T-Ball; flag football; indoor floor hockey; basketball in several age groups; volleyball, sandlot and indoor; bowling, indoor and outdoor; plus a year-round indoor walking club for our seniors.
Aurora has the largest Society membership among the 52 societies comprising the American Turners National organization. We are a self-sustaining, not-for-profit organization, and one of the oldest social clubs in Aurora history.
