Reflecting her years of service and strong understanding of military affairs, State representative Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, has been appointed to the State’s Military Economic Development Committee.

“Illinois plays an instrumental role in our country’s defense, from logistics to industry to bases,” Kifowit said. “Our State is home to a number of businesses and jobs that are directly impacted by the military, and it’s important we are agile in response to decisions in Washington and the defense industry. This committee keeps the General Assembly updated on what’s happening, and helps to ensure Illinois remains a leader in this field.”

The Military Economic Development Committee’s mission is “to preserve, protect, expand and attract new military missions, assets and installations to the State of Illinois.” Additionally, the committee works to encourage defense-related businesses to expand or relocate to the state, as well as identify emerging trends and support for the long-term viability of the military and defense industry in Illinois.

Wednesday, May 24, Kifowit, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps, was appointed to the bipartisan committee by House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch as a replacement for State Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville.

“I am appreciative of the opportunity to serve on this committee, and am thankful for Speaker Welch’s appointment recommendation,” Kifowit said. “The members of this committee are dedicated individuals with a wealth of experience, and I look forward to getting to work with them right away.”
