In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, State representative Barbara Hernandez (83rd District), D-Aurora, is collecting feminine hygiene products to be donated to Mutual Ground, a crisis intervention center in Aurora. The collection will be through the end of October.
“The individuals who utilize Mutual Ground’s services have been placed in situations that no woman should ever have to face in their lives, and the last thing that should occur is putting their well-being at risk by not being able to afford tampons, pads, and other hygiene products,” said Hernandez. “All women deserve to feel empowered, and I hope that residents of my district will consider donating products to benefit the women and girls at Mutual Ground.”
Items needed include, but are not limited to, pads, tampons, conditioner, shampoo, and diapers sizes five and six. There will be three locations in Aurora with donation bins where residents can bring supplies:
• Hernandez’s district office, 540 W. Galena Boulevard;
• Prisco Community Center, 140 W. Illinois Avenue;
• Downtown Santori Aurora Public Library, 101 S. River Street.
“With our emergency shelter running at more than 90% capacity recently, it is incredibly important for us to receive donations of every-day household goods,” said Kathy Melone, advancement director at Mutual Ground. “Mutual Ground relies on the generosity of our community to serve all the individuals coming to us for domestic violence and sexual assault services. We are so appreciative of all of the donations we receive, and are excited to be the beneficiary of Representative Hernandez’s supply drive.”
