State representative Stephanie Kifowit, 84th District, who announced in October to be seeking the nomination of speaker of the Illinois House, released the following statement about the recent November 3 election results. Kifowit ran uncontested in her District which includes Oswego, Aurora, and Naperville.
“It is clear from the result, of Tuesday’s, election, that Illinois voters are craving new leadership in Springfield that they can trust,” stated Kifowit. “Our State, like the Nation, is divided on fundamental issues with regards to the continued global pandemic, and the fiscal management of the slate budget. The people of Illinois crave a State government that they can put their full faith and trust in to solve the mounting issues that are going to have to be addressed soon. To do this, we need to begin a new chapter in the Illinois House of Representatives without Michael Madigan at the helm.”
Representative Kifowit October 1, announced her intention of seeking the nomination of speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives. She was first elected in 2012 to represent the 84th Illinois, House District. She is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, served on the Aurora City Council, at and was a financial advisor, and former substitute teacher.
Several other State House Representatives publicly have stated they will not be voting for Michael Madigan as speaker. They are representatives Anne Slaw-Murray (D-Downers Grove). Terra Costa Howard (D-Lombard), Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago), Lindsey LaPointe (D-Chicago), Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz (D-Glenview), and Maurice West I (D-Rockford).
In addition, three State senators, six Chicago aldermen and an array of 53 elected or formerly-elected Democrats penned a letter earlier this year for Michael Madigan to step down.
“I look forward to being nominated as speaker of the Illinois House of Representative. Our citizens, deserve better and I plan on giving my all to ensure that is done,” Kifowft said.
