Remember high school prom? The rotating disco ball, wearing an outfit that made you feel like a million bucks and dancing the night away? Well, grab your dancing shoes and your sweet tooth and go to the Aurora Public Library Friday, May 3. It will not be your average prom. It will be the Storytime Prom!
Children, parents, grandparents, and caregivers are invited to a “Candyland” themed Storytime Prom at the Eola Road Branch from 11 a.m. to noon in the Large Meeting room.
Storytime Prom is an event that celebrates the upcoming Summer and allows kids and adults another great reason to visit the Library.
“Storytime Prom is one of my favorite days of the year,” said children’s services manager, Angela Van Vuren. “It is a fun hour of dancing, laughing, and getting to know our customers.”
It will be the fourth year Aurora Public Library has been host to Storytime Prom. Children’s Services staffer Andrea Tiberi has led prom for all four years. “It’s crazy how it really does feel like a school dance,” said Tiberi. “I really enjoy coming up with a theme and going all-out with decorations.”
Past themes have included “Enchanted Forest” and “Under the Sea.”
This year’s Candyland Prom will feature group-led songs and a story, dancing, a photo area, and refreshments. Children will receive a sweet party favor to go along with the Candyland theme. Dress attire is encouraged, but not required.
Don’t worry, you don’t need to register, either! Just make sure to come prepared to dance, practice your prom pose for your picture, and be ready to have a sweet time at the Aurora Public Library!
