Suhayda family’s escape from Russia-controlled Hungary

Bill Suhayda of Sugar Grove related his family’s escape from Russia-controlled Hungary to Aurora for Aurora Noon Lions Club members Monday. Suhayda, a retired educator, spoke at the Lions’ luncheon meeting at Luigi’s Pizza in Aurora. A native of Godisa, Hungary, Suhayda recounted how his family escaped to Austria before immigrating to Michigan and then Aurora. After graduating from East Aurora High School and Aurora University he taught biology and coached soccer and wrestling for more than 30 years in East Aurora schools. In 2016, Suhayda published “From Tyranny to Liberty,” a history of the Suhayda family’s escape from post-World War II Hungary. Al Benson/The Voice
