Summer Reading Program challenge for Yorkville young

The Yorkville Public Library Youth Service Department will have many events this month. All events will take place at the Library, 902 Game Farm Road, unless otherwise noted. For more information, or to register, call 630-553-4354 or visit www.yorkville.lib.il.us.

• 2021 Summer Reading Program: Reading Colors Your World, through July 31.

We are excited to present this year’s Summer reading program! This year the program is divided into June and July. We are challenging our young patrons to read 425 minutes each month! At the end of each month, children can submit their reading log to be entered into the grand prize raffle. Simply record your child’s minutes on the print log available at the Library or use the online portal to record your minutes via the YPL website (under Summer reading). Using the online portal will allow for weekly challenges and prizes. Grand prize will be drawn August 2.

• Drop in Story Time (virtual), Every Friday on YPL Facebook

Each Friday morning watch Ms Jennette read a story on the Yorkville Public Library Facebook page.

• Summer STEM Camp-4-H and Yorkville Public Library, ages five to eight, June 14-16, 10:30 a.m. to noon.

On display will be the basic principles of static electricity, pop rockets, wind energy, flight, migratory patterns, and animal adaptations. This three day program will be held YPL in the Michelle Pfister Meeting Room. There is a $30 per participant to cover the cost of materials. Learn more and register @ go.illinois.edu/4HSTEMCamp2021. • Summer STEM Camp- 4-H and Yorkville Public Library, ages 9-12, June 14-16, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m..

Explore and learn about robotic bugs, environmental science, wind energy, water conservation and quality, and rockets (build and launch your own). This three day program will be held YPL in the Michelle Pfister Meeting Room. There is a $40 per participant to cover the cost of materials. Learn more and register @ go.illinois.edu/4HSTEMCamp2021. • Stories in the Park- Purcell Park, Wednesday, June 16 at 10:30 a.m..

Grab a blanket or chairs and join Ms Jennette at Purcell Park, 325 Fairhaven Drive to listen to several stories.

• Movie Monday for Kids, Monday, June 21 at 1 p.m.,

Get out of the heat and relax by watching a free movie with your family. Join us in the large meeting room (Michelle Pfister Room) to watch the movie “Soul”. Please register the total number of people who will be in attendance on the YPL Calendar of Events page. Face masks and social distancing are required.

• Book Club- 3rd and 5th Grade, Monday, June 21 and 28, 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m..

In this two session book club, the participants will receive the book on June 21 and read it at home. Then it will be discussed at the following session June 28. Please register for both days on the YPL website. * Face masks and social distancing are required.

• Colorful Creatures of Illinois, Tuesday, June 22, 11 a.m. on Zoom, Discover a rainbow of wildlife with Colorful Creatures of Illinois.

This virtual, interactive program introduces local animals who adapt to their environments using color, shape, and other cool methods of camouflage and trickery! Register today! You will have the choice of joining us here at the library to watch the presentation in the large meeting room (Michelle Pfister Room) or you can join the Zoom program at home. Please register on the YPL website (Calendar of Events).

• Stories in the Park- Autumn Creek North, Wednesday, June 23, 10:30 a.m..

Grab a blanket or chairs and join Ms Jennette at Autumn Creek North, 1397 Slate Drive to listen to several stories.

• “Only One YOU”, Thursday, June 24, 11 a.m. or 2 p.m..

We are reading the inspiring book, “Only One You” by Linda Kranz. After a brief discussion, we will paint a rock to add to an area in the children’s courtyard. Please wear old clothes. Registration is on the YPL website. * Face masks and social distancing are required.
