Babies may be small, but their development is mighty—and so is the support they need. The Aurora Public Library District (APLD) is proud to provide a supportive community for our youngest customers and their caregivers through the resources, services, and programs that we offer. From educational programs to storytimes to reading incentives, APLD is committed to nurturing growth from the very beginning.
The earliest months of a baby’s life are packed with big milestones and big questions for caregivers. That’s why library programs for ages 0 – 5 years are an important part of the work we do. These early childhood programs offer a supportive space where caregivers can learn, share, and connect. “Offering this type of program is essential because it provides parents and caregivers with the tools and knowledge they need to make informed decisions,” said early literacy specialist, Gretchen. “Through these programs, the library ensures that families have access to expert advice and support, contributing to healthier and more confident caregiving.”
One upcoming educational program will be a virtual workshop on infant feeding led by Danyale Washington of Sweet Piece Solutions. Danyale will bring a wealth of experience to the table, and she’s spent her career supporting families through the challenges of early childhood. This workshop will cover feeding methods for infants 0-12 months, introducing solids, and overcoming common hurdles. “Feeding challenges can be overwhelming, and by providing expert guidance and practical tips, I’m looking forward to seeing attendees leave feeling more confident and empowered in their feeding journey,” added Gretchen. It’s a workshop that promises to be informative and engaging with personalized advice for attendees.
In addition to special programs like this workshop, there are always things happening for babies and their grown-ups at APLD! Our weekly Busy Babies storytime, designed specifically for children ages 0 – 2, will meet on Fridays at the Eola Road Branch and on Wednesdays at the Santori Library offers stories, songs, rhymes, and open play time that encourages conversation between caregivers and peer interaction. You can sign your child up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten where families are challenged to read, you guessed it, 1,000 books in preparation for school. One-thousand books might sound like a lot, but reading just one book a night gets you there in under three years! By making reading a fun and consistent part of your child’s day, you help set the stage for them to become lifelong readers and learners.
We believe it’s never too early to start your library journey. In fact, there’s no minimum age requirement for an APLD card, meaning babies can get their very own library card from day one! It’s just one of the many ways we celebrate and support families from the very beginning. If you’re interested in attending our Infant Feeding: Support for Caregivers & Parents virtual workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, the Zoom link is available online (no registration required).
